I experimented quite a bit in college. No, not like that. I’m talking about PC games. Even though I had an Xbox, a PSOne, a Gamecube, and a Dreamcast, and despite the fact that my PC could never be considered even a mediocre gaming rig, I was probably more of a PC gamer at that time than at any point before or after my four years at school. One of my favorites was Max Payne. It was probably the still-relatively-novel bullet time gameplay mechanic, but I tore through this game like a basket of calamari.
And apparently they’re making a movie…
Today, the word on the street is that the film should start shooting March 2nd in Toronto, and is scheduled to wrap up on May 9th. John Moore is set to direct the story of a New York cop whose wife and baby are killed by thugs high on a designer drug called Valkyr. Devastated, the cop joins the Drug Enforcement Agency and goes undercover with the mob to find the source of the drug. Framed for the murder of his partner and hunted down by both the mob and the police, he is forced to wage a one-man war against crime.

Mark Wahlberg? This is going to be A) nothing like the game and B) terrible. Oh wait, I guess that’s pretty much every video game movie.

I just want to know why you hate Mark Wahlberg. I’m assuming it’s because he always plays the type of guy? Tough, chip on shoulder, from the bad side of town hero? If that’s so then do you also hate Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, and Jason Statham?
I’m not president of his fan club or anything I just enjoyed many of his movies and thought he did a great job in them. Departed in particular, while being an absolutely fantastic movie, would’ve lost a lot of biting sarcasm and humor to balance the drama without him.
Do you hate all these movies or just him in them?
# Shooter (2007) …. Bob Lee Swagger
# The Departed (2006) …. Det. SSgt. Dignam
# Invincible (2006) …. Vince Papale
# Four Brothers (2005) …. Bobby Mercer
# The Italian Job (2003) …. Charlie Croker
# Planet of the Apes (2001) …. liked it better than the original, but this was his least impressive movie in my opinion
# The Perfect Storm (2000) …. Bobby Shatford
# Three Kings (1999) …. Sfc. Troy Barlow
# Boogie Nights (1997) …. Eddie Adams - ‘Dirk Diggler’
# Fear (1996) …. David McCall

I listed those three actors because they always seem to play the same guy to me, and thought that’s where you were going.

Oh, it’s not that I hate him. I really like all seven of the movies from that list that I’ve seen. I have no issue with Marky Mark in the least. I just don’t think he’s right for the part at all. Maybe it’s the fact that the character in the game has a face, and it doesn’t look like him, or his typical acting doesn’t line up with the picture in my mind of how the character would look/act.
My vote would be more for a Liev Schreiber or a Hank Azaria (if Hank lifted weights for like a year).
Check these images for comparison:

I thought the same thing about Superman Returns and Brandon Routh, but in the end I liked him as much as Christopher Reeves. One thing I do not remember Wahlberg doing is the kind of gravel-y, noir voice acting that I remember from Max Payne-that in my mind would be a greater risk of casting him than his look. And Azaria was cut enough in Along Came Polly. I picture Max Payne as more of lean fighter than a brawler–more like Sean Patrick Flanery than Vin Diesel, but I haven’t played or thought about the game in forever, so maybe I’m not remembering the feel of it too well.
