Your life online

It’s truly astounding to think of how much of my life is now on the web. All of the things I used to do with Windows applications are now done via sleek web services, with all of the concomitant flexibility and collaboration. The network truly is the computer, and as Wired put it, the network is also us. It’s still somewhat mind-blowing that on my lunch break, I can edit a spreadsheet in Google Docs with my wife watching from her desk at work, proofread a blog post, see my friends’ vacation photos while they’re still on vacation, remotely burn a DVD on my home PC for an upcoming trip, and schedule a show on our Tivo to watch during dinner.

Here are just a few of the web apps that have changed the way I work and play.

What parts of your life have moved completely online?

Scott says: Gotta love the online Tivo scheduling - works like a champ. Google docs are great for grocery list editing too. However, I personally tried out Back to My Mac recently over Thanksgiving and it totally let me down - my iMac with Leopard had crashed while I was away, not sure who to blame about that - damn thing had a black screen and would not respond. Anyway, great tools if they work!

Garrett says: Glad I was able to get you on the Google Docs Grocery List Train. That’s a great way to do it.
